In an interview with HipHop.de, Arafat Abou-Chaker gives insights into the German hip hop business and the criminal underworld – with little mainstream attention.
If you are interested in entrepreunership, you should take a look at how people build business models in the legal grey areas. The Abou-Chaker-Clan has become the most famous family clan in Berlin’s nightlife and at the same time owner of the hip-hop label erguterjunge (under which Bushido, among others, publishes his records). The head of the family, Arafat Abou-Chaker, has now given an extremely rare interview with Rooz Lee of hiphop.de.
What is the explosive aspect of the interview with Arafat Abou-Chaker?
For the ignorant among you, like me, here is the intro. It’s about the dispute between the label ersguterjunge and the German rapper Kay One, who accuses the interviewee of having cheated him financially and left Berlin and the label head over heels.
Explosive point 1: The “Then you are too polically gay” quotation
Rhetorically world class – as I thought – is the quote from Minute 14:30 min:
What does it have to do with being politically correct when the glass is white? And you want me to believe that it is red. Then you are politically gay, but not correct!Arafat Abou-Chaker
I’m not sure if this is unclever or refreshing compared to the smooth PR statements of the media world. But I’m sure that not many CEOs would have put it that way on camera.
Explosive Point 2: Files & contracts on camera
There are already a lot of files and contracts on the table and partly also on the camera, which are probably subject to clear confidentiality agreements. It is possible that both video and individual scenes will reappear in court.
Explosive Point 3: Rhetoric and Logical Structure
It is really hard to follow the conversation at some points, as Arafat Abou-Chaker speaks anything but typical business German. And also the one or other line of argumentation is different from what you learn in the MBA. Nevertheless: The colleague probably makes considerably more ashes than you and what he does not have at Rhetorik, he makes up loosely with Agression.
Video: Arafat Abou-Chaker Interview about Kay One with hiphop.de (Rooz Lee)
Here the interview – unfortunately a bit long but worthwhile:
Backgrounds: ersguterbounge, Kay One, Abou-Chaker-Clan
The highly explosive story between Kay One and Bushido and the record label is actually summarized quite well on the Wikipedia page of Kay One.
The interview with Kay One that made Arafat Abou-Chaker go public can also be found on hiphop.de.
A background report about the Abou-Chaker-Clan by SPIEGELTV can be found on youtube. This is also critically denounced in the interview by Arafat as one-sided journalism.
Part 2 of the interview with Arafat Abou Chaker
The 2nd part of the interview with Arafat Abou-Chaker will be published on Wednesday, July 1, 2015, on the Youtube channel of hiphop.de.
